Amanda KB
I’m a licensed psychologist specializing in trauma recovery. I’m a solo private practice business owner, woman of color, and business and mindset coach for therapists.
I teach everything including:
-
Marketing & SEO
-
Copywriting and leveraging AI
-
Overcoming money mindset & imposter syndrome
-
Trauma stewardship & the necessity of self-care
I always loved being a therapist who wore a lot of hats. The majority of my clinical work before private practice was working in university counseling centers, so I got to do individual therapy, couples therapy, group therapy, supervision, outreach, and more.
Over time, I realized what I really loved was freedom and creativity – and being able to use that freedom and creativity to work in my zone of genius and provide high quality care to my clients and mentees.
But I never really had this type of freedom working for someone else…
So I decided to work for myself!
My journey from university counseling to private practice
-
In October 2021, I was completely discouraged as a college counseling center staff therapist. I was so close to being licensed, but it felt like forever away. Even then, I struggled with this idea that I really loved college counseling work, but the agency was no longer working with or for me.
A lot of clinicians move from college counseling to private practice, but no one ever taught me how to do that!! I was scared and overwhelmed, but come December 2021 (when I finally got licensed), I knew I had to start looking into the transition, because I was becoming more and more burnt out with each hour of the work day.
So I took two weeks off for my holiday break, and deep dove into ALL THE FACEBOOK GROUPS to get guidance and feedback about how to legally and ethically set up a private practice. I then spent the next 6 months learning about all the systems and getting my practice set up, taking on my first private practice client in April 2022, and going full time in July 2022.
-
Now the ironic thing was that I had all the freedom and flexibility to do exactly what I wanted…
…but I still didn’t really know what that was, or how to get there..
-
Accept insurance or go private pay?
-
Work only via telehealth, or in-person, or a combo?
-
One niche or multiple niches?
-
Website or no website?
-
Social media marketing, or not?
I also knew I needed to make money, and to feel secure in my income so that I didn’t have to overwork myself or quit my own business and find another job in another agency.
So I set out to learn from the current experts for therapists around money mindset, copywriting, and marketing.

It was great!
I learned a lot, and I was (and still am) grateful for everything I learned.
Here was the problem though…
Each of these courses are INVESTMENTS. And while it’s not wrong to invest in yourself and your business, each one being an investment leads many private practice owners debating between which one seems most important given their budget and what they can afford.
While some of these coaching programs had tiny bits of overlap (primarily around fee setting and the importance of having a Psychology Today profile), they each had their own topic of offering and were often referring to other programs (i.e., more investments) to learn more.

I’m thankful to have learned how to:
-
Create business structures and a schedule that works for me
-
Set the fee I need to save, pay bills, and have fun
-
Work smarter not harder by leveraging AI and automated systems
-
Market to potential clients in non-sleazy ways so that they’re excited to work with me come time for the free consultation
I learned all of this through my discovery, research, and training in high-ticket group coaching.
-
I went from earning $72K/year at my agency job…
…to earning 2Xs that in my first year of private practice.
My new mission now is to share every single piece of knowledge I have with you so you too can live this life of freedom.
Without all of the extra investments.
Without waiting months (or years) for learning how all these pieces connect in a way that works for you.
You deserve this life.
You can have it.
I want this for you.
Why work with me?
As an anxious overachiever, once I decided to go all in on investing in my business and money mindset, I really went ALL IN.
I signed up for tons of group coaching programs to help me understand the best ways to comfortably and organically market myself.
I want to share with you my key takeaways that have really turned my business around and made it not only successful, but wildly profitable.
-
Whether you’ve realized it yet or not, our own sense of self-worth and the responsibility we can take on to “fix the system” can interfere with our financial success.
I’ve learned valuable ways to think about my relationship with money (informed by my own childhood stuff) and rewire this mindset, and can help you engage in the same reflection. I’m here to help you finally revisit & raise your fees.
-
I heard it over and over again. A lot of therapists don’t have marketing problems…
THEY HAVE MESSAGING PROBLEMS!
How do you attempt to put what you do as a therapist and put it into words on your website and directories?
I don’t know about you, but when I searched for my own therapists, I was hugely put off by therapists who had non-compelling copy, and drawn to those who wrote in a way that spoke directly to me.
I can teach you frameworks to capture your unique style and skill, as well as ways to leverage AI when you’re feeling particularly stuck.
-
How disappointing is it when you see all these other therapists in FB groups talking about how they’re able to fill their caseload on what seems like autopilot?
They’ve gotten emails and calls from their Psychology Today, and you haven’t.
They get clients from Google, and you don’t know that anyone knows how to find your website.
The last thing you want to do is send letters or baskets to doctors offices in hopes of someone maybe keeping your cards and sending clients your way.
I can walk you through all of your marketing options, helping you to prioritize both the heavy hitters as well as the ones that best align to your people-ing preferences!
-
As someone who loves task variety and has grown to scale and offer multiple types of services (requiring various levels of energy/input from me), I can assist in giving guidance and sharing pros/cons around what adding various tasks might mean for you.
Why coaching for trauma therapists specifically?
Like I said above, in order to succeed in my own business, I had to do a lot of money mindset work and I realized a lot of my view of my literal worth (i.e., what was I charging?) and figurative worth (Did I think I was worth paying $X? What did it mean to provide premium fee therapy compared to sliding fee therapy?) was rooted in my childhood and family of origin.
A lot of therapists specialize in trauma because they themselves have experience(s) with trauma, so I’m imagining I’m not alone here in feeling like my desire to help others heal based on my own experiences of healing was (at one point) the barrier to helping me thrive in my business.
If I’m not alone in this experience…
…this means a lot of trauma therapists out there are struggling with:
-
undercharging for their services…
-
thereby overworking themselves…
-
and experiencing compassion fatigue
FURTHER, so many trauma therapists these days are either leaving the field or looking to change niches to better manage the emotional load of what trauma therapy can be.
As a survivor of trauma myself, I know how important it is to have GOOD trauma therapists out there taking care of themselves so that we can continue to take care of a population most clinicians are terrified to work with.
I know in my heart I will always be supporting others in their trauma recovery, and that I have the freedom and flexibility to support myself as I do this work, so that I can KEEP doing it!
I want to help you make big leaps in your business in less time and for less money, so you can gain more time and make more money.
