Welcome, I'm Amanda
I'm excited you're here.
Welcome to my blog where you'll get all things business education and tips & tricks for your private practice business to reference during difficult times, stressful workdays, and moments when manifesting your true self.
One of the most common questions I get as a biz coach for therapists is – “how do I price my offerings?”
Feeling confident about your price (and being able to say that number out loud on a sales call without hesitation) is a bit of a Goldilocks dilemma.
Is your price too high? Too low? Or just right? What’s the number that you can say with full confidence?
If you struggle with finding the just right number… you aren’t alone.
A lot of therapists struggle with charging more because of self-doubt and imposter syndrome (especially if you grew up in poverty and have money trauma).
Maybe you worry high prices will scare clients away or you’re not a good enough therapist to up your rates.
Or you’re on the other end of the spectrum and don’t charge enough to comfortably pay bills, buy groceries, and have fun (yes, you absolutely deserve to get dessert with dinner, even if it’s not your birthday).
Therapists have been conditioned to believe that we won’t make “a lot” of money in this field, and as a result, many of us developed unhealthy mindsets around fees, income, and overall finances.
But the thing is… you need to make money because… well, you’ve seen the price of groceries lately.
Money is something that you can have, if you want it.
The first step to increase your income is mindset shifts around money.
It wasn’t until I worked on my money mindset and challenged some of the limiting beliefs from childhood that I started signing more clients with confidence.
Here are 3 money mindset reframes to help you do the same:
1. More money means bigger impact.
You probably got into therapy because you wanted to help people. But helping people doesn’t only have to look like giving your clients a sliding scale.
When you have enough money to give yourself security and stability, it creates space for you to be creative and help people in different ways.
Clients inside Intensive Growth Blueprint for Therapists have been able to see MORE pro bono clients because they set their income up in a way that is sustainable.
Not only are they being paid fairly and appropriately for the work they do – they created space to make therapy more accessible for clients who can’t afford it.
2. You need money as a human.
Not only money for groceries and bills but also money for that Australia trip to see koalas eating eucalyptus you dreamed of for years.
Think about business expenses, an emergency fund in case your fridge decides to quit during a heat wave, and retirement savings so you aren’t working until the ripe age of 75.
Then, work backwards to figure out how many sessions you can reasonably take on and how much you need to charge to meet your needs.
3. Don’t make assumptions about your clients.
Never assume your clients can’t afford therapy. You might surprise yourself when you say a number and clients are happy to pay your fee. They value you as a professional, they see your skills, and they’re happy to pay you for your expertise and time.
When you undervalue your services, you not only impact your bottom line — you diminish the value of the support and guidance you provide. Plus, nobody wants a burnt out therapist who dreads appointments because they’re on their 6th call of the day thinking about how behind they are on paperwork while being extremely hangry because they skipped lunch.
Money mindset is one of the key things I support clients with inside the Intensive Growth Blueprint for Therapists.
Because it’s not just about business strategy, how to run intensives, or how to handle clients…
It’s also about YOU, your relationship with money, and unpacking your limiting beliefs.
That’s the key to a sustainable private practice where you prioritize your own mental health and have the space to fully support your clients.
Reframe how you think about money:
